September 2024 Bank Holidays: 15 Days of Closures Across India

Banks to Close for 15 Days in September 2024; Online Services Remain Active

Banks across India will be closed for a total of 15 days in September 2024, including all Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays, and several public holidays. Both public and private sector banks will observe these closures. Among the significant holidays this month are Ganesh Chaturthi, Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day, Maharaja Hari Singh Ji’s Birthday, and Pang-Lhabsol, all of which contribute to the extended non-working days.

It’s important for customers to note that the list of holidays varies by state, with different regions observing their own cultural and religious festivals. Despite these closures, online banking services will continue to be fully operational, allowing customers to perform transactions via bank websites, mobile apps, or ATMs.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), in collaboration with state governments, determines the bank holiday calendar. The RBI ensures that the holiday schedule is transparent and communicated effectively to all financial institutions across the country. According to the RBI, bank holidays in India are categorized into three types: Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts. Regional holidays may differ, so customers are advised to check the specific holiday schedule for their state.
