Pune Metro: Swargate Metro Line to Launch from Sunday After PM Modi’s Visit Canceled
The much-anticipated inauguration of the Pune Metro line between District Court and Swargate has been rescheduled after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit on Thursday was canceled due to heavy rains. The inauguration ceremony, which was to take place in person, has now been moved to an online format on Sunday, September 29.
Why Was PM Modi’s Visit Canceled?
The Prime Minister’s visit was postponed following severe rainfall in Pune over the past two days, making the event site at the College Grounds unsuitable for holding a large public gathering. The administration worked tirelessly to prepare the grounds, but concerns over safety, as well as continued rain forecast by the Meteorological Department, prompted officials to delay the event.
Metro Inauguration and Bhoomi Pujan Postponed
With the postponement of PM Modi’s visit, the inauguration of the Pune Metro route between District Court and Swargate, as well as the Bhoomi Pujan for the Swargate-Katraj route, were also pushed ahead. Citizens were left wondering about the additional two-day delay for the metro launch, despite the Prime Minister inaugurating another major project for Pune, the C-DAC initiative, earlier on Thursday.

As the news of the delayed inauguration spread, many Pune residents expressed their frustration on social media, questioning why an already delayed project faced yet another postponement. With all preparations for the metro launch complete, there was speculation on how long the wait would be before the Swargate metro line became operational.
Inauguration to be Held Online on September 29
In response to public concerns, it was confirmed late Thursday night that the Swargate Metro Line inauguration and the Bhoomi Pujan for the Swargate-Katraj extension would be held as an online event on Sunday, September 29. Additionally, the inauguration of Solapur Airport will also take place on the same day. The exact timing for these events will be announced soon, according to Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Muralidhar Mohol.
