Diwali Traffic Alert: Key Roads Closed, Alternative Routes Announced for Smooth Traffic Flow in Pune

Big Changes in Traffic Due to Diwali: Road Closures and Detours Until November 4

Pune traffic updates: With the festival of Diwali approaching and markets bustling with festive shoppers, the Pune Traffic Police have implemented significant traffic changes to manage the increasing congestion in the city’s central areas. These changes, which will remain in effect until November 5, 2024, are intended to ensure smoother traffic flow and prevent bottlenecks.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Division, Amol Zende, announced that several major roads would be closed for four-wheelers, and alternative routes have been arranged to accommodate the festive crowd and traffic.

Key Road Closures and Detours

  • Swargate to Shivajinagar (Via Bajirao Road): Four-wheeler traffic moving from Swargate towards Shivajinagar via Bajirao Road will be rerouted at Puram Chowk, where vehicles will need to take a left onto Tilak Road and proceed towards S.P. College, eventually reaching their destination via Alka Chowk.
  • Shivajinagar to Barve Chowk: Traffic moving from Shivaji Nagar via Shivaji Road towards Barve Chowk will be diverted to an alternative route via Jungli Maharaj Road and Tilak Chowk.
  • Appa Balwant Chowk to Budhwar Chowk: Vehicular traffic from Appa Balwant Chowk to Budhwar Chowk will be closed. Vehicles will instead proceed straight along Bajirao Road towards their destination.
  • Futka Buruj to Jogeshwari Chowk: Traffic from Futka Buruj towards Jogeshwari Chowk will be restricted as needed. An alternative route via Shivaji Road will be available for vehicles heading towards Jogeshwari Chowk.
  • Shanipar Chowk to Mandai: Roads from Shanipar Chowk and Kumthekar Road leading to Mandai will be closed. Vehicles can instead proceed via Bajirao Road to avoid congestion.

Parking Advisory for Diwali Shoppers

For those coming to the market areas of Bajirao Road, Shivaji Road, Lakshmi Road, Kumthekar Road, Kelkar Road, and Mandai, the police have urged citizens to use the designated parking spaces at Babu Genu Parking, Misal Parking, Hamalwada Parking, and Sane Parking Lot to avoid adding to the traffic.

DCP Zende emphasized that these changes are temporary and necessary to ensure a safe and efficient traffic flow during the Diwali season. Shoppers and commuters are advised to follow the traffic updates and utilize the alternate routes provided.

These traffic adjustments are part of the city’s effort to manage the heavy influx of vehicles during the festive period, allowing citizens to enjoy Diwali shopping without disruptions while minimizing traffic jams.
