Mumbai, December 5, 2024 – The city is set to witness the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Chief Minister of Maharashtra at Azad Maidan today. To ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize inconvenience to citizens, Mumbai Police has issued a detailed advisory, implementing significant changes in traffic routes around the venue.

The ceremony will see a gathering of top dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and Chief Ministers from across the country. With a large number of attendees, the authorities have urged Mumbaikars to use public transport and avoid the Azad Maidan area if possible.

Traffic Restrictions and Alternate Routes

Mumbai Traffic Police has announced that the traffic changes will be in effect from 12:00 PM until the conclusion of the event. Key roads near Azad Maidan will be closed or restricted for vehicular movement:

  1. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Vasudev Balwant Phadke Chowk (Metro Junction):
    • These routes will be closed. Motorists are advised to use L.T. Marg, turn right from Chakala Junction, and proceed via D.N. Road to reach CSMT Junction.
  2. Mahatma Gandhi Marg:
    • Traffic will be closed for vehicles traveling in the opposite direction as needed. Drivers can use Chakala Junction, D.N. Road, and alternate routes to reach their destinations.
  3. Hazarimal Somani Marg (Chafekar Bandhu Chowk to CSMT Junction):
    • Restricted traffic movement. Motorists should opt for routes via Hutatma Chowk, Kala Ghoda, K. Dubhash Marg, or Shahid Bhagat Singh Marg.
  4. Princess Street Bridge (Meghdut Bridge) and NS Road:
    • Closed for southbound traffic. Vehicles will be diverted via NS Road.
  5. Rambhau Salgaonkar Road:
    • Double lanes will be temporarily opened for all types of vehicles from Syed Jamadar Chowk to Volga Chowk between 12:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

Police Advisory

With no parking facilities available near Azad Maidan, Mumbai Police has strongly urged citizens and party workers to rely on public transport. Local trains and buses are the most convenient options to avoid delays.

Citizen Awareness

Mumbai Police has appealed to all commuters to plan their travel in advance. Those traveling from Azad Maidan, CSMT, or nearby areas are advised to use alternate routes to avoid potential delays. Employees and residents in the vicinity are requested to adjust their schedules accordingly.
