Mumbai, December 5, 2024:
In the wake of the grand oath-taking ceremony at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) President Raj Thackeray extended his heartfelt congratulations to the newly sworn-in government led by Devendra Fadnavis. However, his message carried a dual tone of support and caution, emphasizing accountability and the welfare of the Marathi people.
Devendra Fadnavis, who has taken the oath as Chief Minister of Maharashtra for the third time, is joined by Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar as Deputy Chief Ministers. The state erupted in celebrations, with BJP workers distributing pedhas across cities to mark the occasion. Amid the festive fervor, Raj Thackeray shared a statement that outlined both his goodwill and expectations from the new government.
Raj Thackeray’s Congratulatory Message
In his statement, Raj Thackeray lauded Devendra Fadnavis for his return to power, remarking on his perseverance and the majority mandate bestowed upon him.
“Congratulations to my friend and BJP leader in Maharashtra, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, on taking oath as Chief Minister for the third time. This opportunity was long overdue since 2019, but better late than never. I hope you utilize the people’s incredible majority for the welfare of Maharashtra and to uphold Marathi culture and language.”
Thackeray emphasized the importance of focusing on the Marathi identity, urging the government to prioritize initiatives that uplift the state’s regional and cultural ethos.
A Warning of Accountability
While expressing his support for positive governance, Thackeray did not shy away from issuing a warning.
“For the next five years, my party will support any initiative by the government that benefits the people of Maharashtra. However, if mistakes are made, and citizens are taken for granted, we will raise our voice against those lapses, even if it means doing so outside the legislature.”
This dual message reflects the MNS’s intent to act as both a supporter and a watchdog, holding the government accountable for its actions.
Absent but Present in Spirit
Raj Thackeray, who was invited to the swearing-in ceremony, could not attend due to undisclosed reasons. However, his message to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers was a blend of camaraderie and a commitment to the betterment of Maharashtra.
“Best wishes to Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, Mr. Eknath Shinde, and Mr. Ajit Pawar as they take on their roles in the new cabinet. My hopes are high for this government to deliver on its promises.”
Celebrations Across Maharashtra
As Fadnavis began his third term, celebrations erupted across the state. BJP workers marked the occasion with events and sweets distribution, celebrating the dawn of what is being called the “Devendra Era”.
The coming days will test the newly formed government, with Raj Thackeray and his party closely observing its every move.
