New Delhi: On December 26, India lost a towering figure in its political and economic landscape as former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away at the age of 92. A period of seven days of national mourning has been announced to honor his contributions to the nation.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, who served as India’s Prime Minister for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014, was a revered leader, economist, and visionary. His leadership, particularly during the economic liberalization of the 1990s, helped steer India towards becoming one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. He passed away at AIIMS hospital in Delhi after battling health issues.

Leaders Pay Their Respects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his heartfelt tributes to the late leader at Manmohan Singh’s residence in Delhi. A solemn ceremony was held, with the presence of senior political leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister JP Nadda, and Congress leader KC Venugopal.

During his tribute, Prime Minister Modi expressed his deep sorrow at the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, calling his death a great loss to the country. Modi praised Singh’s contributions, saying that his economic reforms have had a lasting impact on India’s growth and development. He remarked, “The future generations can learn from the life of Manmohan Singh how perseverance can overcome adversity.”

Dr. Singh, who was first appointed Prime Minister in 2004, played a critical role in India’s economic reforms. He is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their three daughters, who have requested privacy during this difficult time.

In honor of Dr. Manmohan Singh’s contributions, all government programs scheduled for December 27 have been canceled. His state funeral will take place today, with full state honors.
